All four molecules affected embryonic development or gene expression and may therefore function in the endometrium as embryokines. In this study, supplementing culture medium with uterine-derived factors improved bovine placental cell proliferation and embryo development. Early development of the equine embryo occurs in the oviduct, and information on the composition of this oviducal environment is very valuable.
